As one of the first companies, Deutsche Post DHL, the leading postal and logistics group, has been awarded with the Green Freight Europe (GFE) label. The “first leaf” is part of a four-tier, yearly labeling program by GFE that recognizes and benchmarks members based on their efforts and measures in reporting and reducing CO2 emissions. GFE aims to foster general strategies as well as concrete measures to improve the carbon efficiency of road transport operations. The award goes to companies that have shared CO2 data and information on policies, strategy and intentions to reduce CO2 emissions.

“We are a founding member of Green Freight Europe as well as for the similar regional organization in Asia. Being amongst the first companies that have been awarded by Green Freight Europe proves that we are well ahead on our way to establish green logistics in our customers’ supply chains and foster the cooperation with our road subcontractors,” said Christof Ehrhart, Director Corporate Communications and Responsibility at Deutsche Post DHL.

“By sharing our knowledge and fostering exchange of data and best practices, we contribute to reducing CO2-emissions in road transport – a very relevant work towards cleaner and more efficient road transport,” added Amadou Diallo, CEO DHL Freight.

Green Freight Europe is an industry driven program to support companies in improving the environmental performances of freight transport in Europe. It aims to coherently apply transportation standards for emission reporting and monitoring in the freight sector. By utilizing common up-to-date emission factors in combination with detailed vehicle activity data, carriers and shippers will be able to take sustainable purchasing decisions and so reduce costs, time and CO2 emissions. In 2015 GFE will further improve on CO2 data exchange and foster access to the GFE Knowledge Sharing Platform. Here, members will be able to get access to expert knowledge, best practices and other information supporting the industry to further improve on their environmental performance and to intensify collaboration.
