The UPS Foundation Commits Over $10 Million to Humanitarian Relief and Global Road Safety

Today, The UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of UPS® (NYSE: UPS), announced it will donate over $10 million to non-profit, non-governmental and United Nations agencies organizations in 2015 for the purpose of increasing community safety around the world. Focus areas for donations include emergency preparedness, disaster relief response/recovery and road safety.

In 2014, the UPS Humanitarian Relief & Resilience program provided global relief partners with funds, in-kind support and supply chain expertise to support preparedness, emergency response and recovery capabilities. UPS provided staging capacity for relief items to the World Food Programme (WFP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Inc.(CDC), and other partners, to help the humanitarian relief community respond to the Ebola epidemic. UPS also helped address the needs of displaced refugees by transporting hundreds of thousands of winter supplies to Syrian refugees, and by leveraging UPS technologies to strengthen distribution tracking of food and vital supplies for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Among the key initiatives that will be supported in 2015 are:

UNHCR – Expanding UPS Relief Link, a humanitarian supply chain solution for tracking food and critical relief supplies.

Expanding UNICEF – Strengthening immunization supply chain s and building country level tracking capabilities.

United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) – Enhancing education and planning to help communities reduce risks and support for the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan.

U.S. Chamber Foundation – Enhancing disaster preparedness for small and medium businesses.

World Food Programme – Conducting logistics capacity assessments in at-risk countries and expanding training for UN Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD).

GAVI Alliance – Helping to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of vaccine supply chains through enhanced training.

“Enhancing the safety of communities by leveraging our core competencies and our philanthropy is a force multiplier,” said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation. “Grants are critical in providing funding to address community safety, but at UPS, we go much farther than writing a check. Our expertise in logistics, supply chain management and road safety allows us to get involved in a deeply personal way from global employee volunteerism initiatives to loaning out our logistics executives to partner with non-profits around the world that are making an impact.”

Among the non-profits and organizations that will be supported by The UPS Foundation’s 2015 community safety grants are:

Good360 , UNHCR, UNICEF and the World Food Programme will receive grants that benefit technology and supply chain initiatives to improve back-end processes and tracking behind humanitarian relief efforts.

The American Red Cross , CARE , MedShare , National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster , Operation Hope , Salvation Army and St. Bernard Project will benefit from ongoing support for disaster recovery efforts, including providing food, shelter and other essential needs.

Grants for ongoing emergency preparedness and training programs for American families and businesses will be awarded to the Advertising Council , Safe America Foundation and Center for Disaster Philanthropy .

The following organizations will receive grants to strengthen community resilience through greater public/private partnerships that address global challenges: InterAction , the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs , the UNISDR and the U.S. Chamber Foundation .

Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada , the National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Inc. , the Citizenship Education Fund , FIA Foundation – Road Safety Fund , Hands On Shanghai , AIP, Fundación Gonzalo Rodríguez , Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. and UK Youth will receive grants for global safe driving initiatives.

The Georgia Tech Foundation will receive scholarship dollars for students in its International Humanitarian Logistics program.
