What do you do after you track your package and discover that your shipment has been lost? Or you just a received a damaged package shipment? Packages do get occasionally get lost by the shippers and unfortunately, damage does sometimes occur to parcels in shipment.

Lost or damaged UPS and FedEx® packages are covered up to $100 automatically. The US Post Office does not automatically insure packages against loss or damage but you may purchase shipping insurance if you wish to do so. All four US shippers offer additional shipping insurance for valuable items, which may be purchased at an additional cost, based on the coverage desired for that shipment.

Before you file a lost package claim, please be sure to allow ample time for late delivery. Packages do sometime get delayed due to the weather, busy shipping periods, etc. If you still have not received your package after a reasonable wait (a week or so after expected delivery), you should contact the customer service for the appropriate shipper.

For damaged package claims, be sure to save all original packing material, invoices and the damaged items from the shipment. These will be needed to file your damaged package claim.

Lost or Damaged U.S.P.S. Packages

The US Post office does not automatically insure packages sent (except for Express Mail, which received automatic shipping insurance up to $100 per package).
