UPS also has been working with the Red Cross to strengthen its supply chain network in the affected zones.
Before the 2012 hurricane season began, UPS already pre-positioned Red Cross shelter support trailers, which the Red Cross began mobilizing immediately after Sandy passed through the region.
“UPS has a long history of working with disaster relief organizations to deliver urgent, life-saving aid to communities in need around the world,” said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation.
“The determination and caring spirit of UPSers has never been more evident,” said Scott Davis, UPS chairman and CEO.
“The UPS team has answered the call and everyone involved is going above and beyond to bring relief and hope to those impacted by the storm.”

Delivery Operations in All Package, Freight and Logistics Facilities Have Been Restored to Provide Service Wherever Possible

UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced it has pledged $1.5 million in cash and in-kind support to aid in the recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy that struck the northeast corridor of the U.S. earlier this week.

In addition, all UPS package, freight and logistics operations have been restored and UPS employees throughout the region are working diligently to provide service to the affected areas, although many businesses remain closed and some locations are inaccessible. Even so, some UPS drivers are attempting deliveries wherever safety allows, much to the delight of their customers, some of whom have posted videos on social media channels.

“The determination and caring spirit of UPSers has never been more evident,” said Scott Davis, UPS chairman and CEO. “The UPS team has answered the call and everyone involved is going above and beyond to bring relief and hope to those impacted by the storm.”

UPS’s financial and in-kind contribution is comprised of a $250,000 grant to the American Red Cross to help with the sheltering needs of the victims of Sandy, $250,000 in logistical aid for urgent response and an additional $1 million in cash and in-kind support to a variety of relief organizations throughout 2013 to assist in the long-term recovery of communities affected by the storm.

UPS has been in daily contact with Red Cross staff since Sandy began to sweep across the northeast to assess the areas in most need of assistance and establish a schedule for the delivery of urgent shelter support and relief supplies. UPS also has been working with the Red Cross to strengthen its supply chain network in the affected zones. Next week, UPS will deliver 14 truckloads of relief supplies into some of the most heavily impacted areas in New York and New Jersey.

As a leading member of the American Red Cross’s Annual Disaster Giving Program, earlier this year UPS contributed $800,000 in support to help enable the organization to respond to the nearly 70,000 disasters that occur throughout the year.

“The victims of Sandy are facing many challenges and UPS is committed to helping them get back on their feet by donating financial and logistical support to the American Red Cross and other organizations that will be providing assistance in the days, weeks and months ahead.”
